It can be difficult when you are a senior dealing with being sick or recuperating from an injury. You may be housebound for a couple of days to a few weeks or even for months while you get better. But as you are getting stronger, your happiness may take a hit while you are out of commission. If you have a computer, smartphone, laptop, or electronic reading device, there are many online ways to stay happy when you are stuck in the house. Here are a few of them.

Social Media: Facebook

Most of us already use one form of social media on a regular basis. If you don't, now is the time to download Facebook. And don't worry! Our social media guide walks you through how to set up your profile.

If you can't get out to see friends and family, connect with them through this social media platform. You won't feel as isolated and you can easily keep everyone updated with your progress. Feelings of loneliness will quickly lead to unhappiness, so make sure you stay connected while you are stuck in the house.

Electronic Reading Devices

If you love to visit the library or bookstore but cannot due to your current condition, bring the books to you. Download books to your Kindle device, or download the Kindle app to your computer or smartphone. Read eBooks on Kindle from Amazon to keep your mind happy and active. The app is free, so you can always find stories and books if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Blogging Platforms

Being housebound because you aren't 100% healthy is frustrating. Why not blog about it and help others in the meantime? There are many free blogging sites. Get started writing down your story for everyone to hear. Chronicle your struggles, triumphs, fears, hopes, and dreams all in one place for you or for others to read. Getting your feelings out can help you feel better about yourself.

As you are learning to deal with the changes that aging can bring, be patient with yourself, patient with your loved one, seek advice and answers to questions, and remember you are not in this alone. Contact a Caring Senior Service team member today!
